What makes Wilmington Montessori School different
Wilmington Montessori School is a collaborative learning community rooted in Montessori principles, inspiring the joyful discovery of self and a passion for learning and independent thinking. We empower children to be knowledgeable and responsible contributors to the global community. More than 61 years ago, Wilmington Montessori School opened its doors. It began as the Wilmington Montessori Association in 1963 with 14 children in a storefront in downtown Wilmington and moved to a little red school house in Arden in 1973. Wilmington Montessori School incorporated on January 31, 1964 and affiliated with the American Montessori Society the next year. It is now located on a 25-acre campus in North Wilmington.

Primary (Preschool & Kindergarten)
Weekly visits to the Primary Maker Studio. For children ages 3-6.
Lower Elementary
Maker Studio activities include scientific experiments, engineering with diverse building materials, and developing coding skills. For children Grades 1-3 (ages 6-9).
Upper Elementary
Maker Studio activities include presenting information, collaborating on STEAM projects, and using Arduino and Raspberry Pi. For children Grades 4-6 (ages 9-12).
Middle School
Maker Studio activities include using 3D printers and laser cutter, participating in year-long learning projects, and building coding skills. For children Grades 7 & 8 (ages 12-14).
What a morning here looks like
Children arrive to calm, prepared classrooms and choose real work from open shelves — pouring, sorting, letters, numbers, art. A guide observes each child and steps in exactly when a skill is ready to grow. The long, unhurried work period is the heart of the method: concentration is built, not demanded.
